Research presented at the biennial International AIDS Conference in Vienna last week showed that antiretroviral drugs are safe to use in order to guard against HIV infection for men who have sex with men (MSM).
Though results are forthcoming on the treatment's efficacy for HIV-negative men, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control reported that pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) using the drug tenovir is safe, according to a study with 400 MSM who do not have the virus that causes AIDS.
