New York state senator Shirley Huntley, who is running for reelection, says she will not be deterred by death threats she says she's received from marriage equality supporters.
The threat, which read "Rest in Peace," came on a note attached to a bouquet of flowers found on her doorstep August 10. She initially said she didn't know the root cause of the threat, but her latest mailer to voters claims it originated from people who live outside of her distric, and have donated a cumulative $100,000 to her opponent, Lynn Nunes, who has garnered more gay supporters.
Huntley, who represents parts of Queens, was one of the eight Democrats in the New York senate to vote against the marriage equality bill in 2009.
