Conservative coming-out stories this week have now spanned the Atlantic.
Two days after former Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman confirmed in an interview that he is gay, Crispin Blunt, an MP in the United Kingdom's Department of Justice, has separated from his wife, deciding "to come to terms with his homosexuality," the BBC reports.
Blunt, 50, is the uncle of actress Emily Blunt. He previously served as an army officer for 11 years.
An unidentified member of Blunt's Conservative Party told the BBC, "It's a bit of a shock. We didn't know in advance. ... But everyone in the local party likes him and it's a courageous thing to do. It's really a private matter for him."
