Man Evicted for Being HIV-Positive Heads to White House
A man evicted from an assisted living facility in Arkansas because he is HIV-positive has been invited to participate in a White House conference on HIV and aging.
Robert Franke, with his daughter Sara Bowling, will head to the event on October 27. Franke and Bowling sued the Fox Ridge assisted living facility in North Little Rock and were represented by Lambda Legal attorney Scott Schoettes. The case was settled in September.
"My father and I are grateful for the opportunity to go to the White House," Bowling said in a statement Monday. "We are also encouraged that the administration is addressing the issue of HIV/AIDS and aging and the discrimination that goes along with it. We hope that one day discrimination and prejudice against others will no longer exist."
