NYC Rocked by Civil Disobedience Tuesday?
New York state senator Tom Duane and members of community organizations plan to rally Tuesday in New York City to protest funding cuts affecting low-income people with HIV.
A press release indicates that rally participants also plan unspecified civil disobedience on Broadway, between Barclay and Park, and are prepared to be arrested, including Duane. Groups participating include Bailey House, Bronx AIDS Services, Housing Works, Harlem United, and AIDS Housing Network.
The actions are a result of Gov. David Paterson vetoing a bill in September that would have limited rent increases for HIV-positive people on welfare.
