In a rare Saturday session, the Senate has voted 63-33 to advance a bill to repeal "don't ask, don't tell."
Repeal looked to be dead when Senate Republicans defeated a larger military spending bill earlier this month.
But a stand-alone bill introduced by independent senator Joe Lieberman and Republican senator Susan Collins garnered support from Republicans including Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts and Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine.
