A 52-year-old gay man was severely beaten with a pool cue last week in Shreveport, La., in what police are calling a hate crime.
John Skaggs is recovering from facial wounds he suffered after allegedly being attacked by William Payne at the Sandbar nightclub. The manager of the club says the men didn't even interact before Payne swung a pool stick at Skaggs's face. Security personnel managed to hold Payne until police arrived to arrest him.
After viewing video surveillance, Shreveport police charged Payne with attempted murder and a hate crime.
