Tina Fey, Ricky Martin, and Russell Simmons took home awards from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Saturday night at the organization's New York awards ceremony.
Grammy award winning singer Martin received the Vito Russo award for his humanitarian work as well as his new album, Musica+Alma+Sexo, and his autobiography, Me. The Reverend Al Sharpton presented music mogul Russell Simmons the excellence in media award, for his philanthropic work, and supporting efforts to improve inner-city poverty, voter registration among youth, HIV/AIDS awareness, and animal rights, and to achieve full equality for LGBT people.
The Advocate/Out also won the award for outstanding magazine coverage over all, and Kerry Eleveld, The Advocate's former Washington correspondent, won outstanding digital journalism article for her series "A View From Washington."
The remaining awards for outstanding comedy series, film, reality series, among others, will be announced in Los Angeles on April 10 and in San Francisco on May 14.
