One of the country's most visible attorneys, David Boies, has a lot on his plate, including overturning Proposition 8 and helping the National Football League avoid a lockout.
The 70-year-old lawyer is profiled in The New York Times, which looks at his headline-making work including his efforts at having California's antigay Prop. 8 be ruled unconstitutional in a federal court (it's currently mired in an appeals court). Aside from working for the N.F.L., Boies is also representing Jamie McCourt, who is fighting with her ex-husband for control over the Los Angeles Dodgers -- the case has captivated Los Angeles and the sports world.
"His capacity to cross-examine is like no one I've seen," Joel Klein of News Corporation, told the Times about the overachieving Boies. "It's mesmerizing. If he read a document, he'll remember it. If you say 'X,' he'll say 'Four years ago, you said Y.'"
