Houston Mayor Attacked in Video — That Mostly Lists Her Accomplishments
An antigay pastor who posted a YouTube video attacking Houston mayor Annise Parker, who is a lesbian, for her "homosexual agenda" got at least one thing right. Voters will decide in November whether they support her record of standing on the side of LGBT citizens -- a record the video tries to malign but actually seems to tout.
The Dallas Voicereports that Dave Welch, executive director for the Houston Area Pastor Council, is behind the video, which purports to be "a realistic look" at Parker's first term and "how she has imposed her Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, etc. agenda on the city."
The video includes no narration and instead comes off as a list of accomplishments strung together from news reports and speeches over some suspenseful piano playing. Still, what Parker sees as accomplishments, Welch sees as an urgent reason to "Show this in your church!"
Apparently most disturbing to Welch was footage from Parker's inauguration, when she kissed her partner, Kathy Hubbard. That moment gets played twice and in slow motion.
Otherwise, the video list things such as Parker's support for an anti-discrimination policy that includes transgender people and her nomination of a judge who is a transgender woman. See for yourself in the video below whether it has the effect Welch aimed for.
Houston voters will choose on November 8 whether this is their agenda also.
