Obama Appoints Gay Man to Board of Advisors on HBCUs
On Friday, President Obama announced his intent to nominate the Reverend George B. Walker Jr. to the President's Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Since October, Walker has been serving as vice president of strategic partnerships at the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund and Victory Institute. Prior to that he was the Victory Fund's vice president of leadership initiatives, a position he held since 2008. He has also worked at the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy, the Human Rights Campaign, and the Center for Community Change.
"I am proud that such experienced and committed individuals have agreed to serve the American people in these important roles," President Obama said of Walker and the other six individuals he appointed Friday to key administration posts. "I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead."
