The Advocate spoke to Chad Griffin and Sarah Kate Ellis on the ground about the tragedy in Orlando.
The leaders of two of the most prominent LGBT organizations have a message to Orlando's LGBT community: We're here for you.
Human Rights Campaign's Chad Griffin and GLAAD's Sarah Kate Ellis spoke with The Advocate Monday in the Florida city about the recent shooting of The Pulse.
"We're here for you. We feel your pain. We understand your pain," Ellis said.
"We're down here to make sure the community here has the support that it needs but also that the larger message is getting out, that this was an attack on the LGBT community," she added, citing how "hateful rhetoric" can lead to violent crimes such as the mass shooting, which is the deadliest in U.S. history.
"We're here for the families. We're here for those who are still struggling in the hospital just down the street," Griffin added. "We are a resilient community."
