"When someone removes their clothes around you, it can strip pretense from the situation." Read more below.
"The photo-making process for me is really about the connection it allows with those I photograph," photographer Joey Sbarro tells us. "Being behind the camera gives me an access point to a space where we can relate to each other on a more honest level. When someone sits for my camera, what I'm interested in is having a real moment with them, a conversation. When someone removes their clothes around you, it can strip pretense from the situation and open up a deeper sense of sincerity and communication.
"My work probes the ideas of intimacy, vulnerability, and beauty, none of which are traditionally 'masculine' traits, all of which have always been very interesting to me. Exploring these qualities by photographing men in a way that is neither overtly masculine or overtly feminine, I hope to disturb the boundaries between the two, and open up the possibility of redefining them. "
Joey Sbarro is a photographer living and working in Jersey City, N.J. Find out more about Joey and see his work on his website, Instagram, and Facebook page.
