Longtime Advocate contributor Eric Lanuit is adept at pastiche. His Orientalism series is ornate and sensual. His military uniform tribute had us marching. But his Tom of Finland homage has a magical quality that brings something special to the interpretation.
Eric Lanuit discovered Tom of Finland’s drawings at the age of 13 and immediately became a huge admirer of his art and what it represents. Tom’s depictions of open, healthy, and shame-free sexuality were unheard of at the time.
Tom’s World is a book of Eric’s photography in tribute to the wonderful artwork of Touko Laaksonen, a.k.a. Tom of Finland (1920-1991). Photographs from the book will be on exhibit at La Mine in Paris until October 29.
