Eric Lanuit pays a sexy homage to the 20th century's most famous gay erotic artist in his book 'Tom's World.' Read more below.
Longtime Advocate contributor Eric Lanuit is adept at pastiche. His Orientalism series is ornate and sensual. His military uniform tribute had us marching. But his Tom of Finland homage has a magical quality that brings something special to the interpretation.
Eric Lanuit discovered Tom of Finland's drawings at the age of 13 and immediately became a huge admirer of his art and what it represents. Tom's depictions of open, healthy, and shame-free sexuality were unheard of at the time.
Tom's World is a book of Eric's photography in tribute to the wonderful artwork of Touko Laaksonen, a.k.a. Tom of Finland (1920-1991). Photographs from the book will be on exhibit at La Mine in Paris until October 29.
