Get Your Culture On During Pride at the WeHo Arts Festival

Let's face it, Pride fatigue is real. And by this point in the month, most of the country is sweeping up the post-parade glitter and rehydrating. But while Los Angeles's official Pride in West Hollywood weekend may be over, thanks to The City of West Hollywood's Arts Division, Pride month will close in a pleasantly artistic way with the One City One Pride LGBTQ Arts Festival (@WeHoArts), which still has a full schedule of fun, free, and culturally-enlightening events that feature fine art, theater, cabaret, poetry, and film--and culminating with an exciting closing day (and night) on June 30. Some highlights over the next few days:

Tuesday, June 25
Join Lambda Literary Book Club and WeHo's poet laureate Steven Reigns at the West Hollywood Library tonight from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in a discussion about T. Kira Madden's lesbian memoir, Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls.

Also held in the library this evening and a part of the Women in Film Speaker Series is "Writing Lesbians into History: The Making of BEFORE STONEWALL" from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Upon the 50th anniversary Stonewall, learn how these filmmakers took generations of LGBTQ history in America and turned it into a powerful, award-winning film.

Wednesday, June 26
Check out Gregorio Davila's director's cut screening of LA: A Queer History (still from the film pictured above) at the West Hollywood City Council Chambers, a documentary funded through a grant from the Arts Division.

Friday, June 28
Don't miss the opening night of Liberate the Bar! Queer Nightlife, Activism, and Spacemaking, a multimedia exhibition that sheds light on the intricate relationship between nightlife, activism, and creative expression across space and time at One Gallery West Hollywood. Rather than a historical overview, the exhibition presents clusters of archival materials such as newspapers, photographs, flyers, and videos alongside works by contemporary artists to meditate on past and present struggles and triumphs of queer life.

Saturday, June 29
For the 11th year in a row, the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights has commissioned new LGBTQ plays to present during Pride month with funding from the City of West Hollywood. Experience a rehearsed reading of a new LGBTQ full-length play at the Plummer Park Community Center from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Sunday, June 30
The "One City One Pride Day of Art" marks the last day of the festival, going on from 1:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the West Hollywood City Council Chambers, featuring a discussion and book signing of comic anthology Crush: First Love, New Talent and !Gaytino! Made in America--a caberet performance about being gay and Chicano, based on the acclaimed solo play by Dan Guerrero.

You can also have a love poem written for you on an antique typewriter at the Queer Poetry Pop-Up's interactive installation, "Everyone Deserves (A) Love (Poem)."

Also, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., don't miss the immersive performance of transgender Korean artist Yozmit (funded by a Transgender Arts Initiative Grant from the City of West Hollywood).
