Fran Drescher has long been a vocal supporter of gay rights, but as she reveals in the new issue of In Touch, her dedication runs deep: Her former husband, to whom she was married for 21 years, is gay.
The star of The Nanny says her ex-husband Peter Marc Jacobson came out to her after the two split in 1999. The couple created The Nanny together, still work on entertainment projects, and remain "the best of friends."
"We love each other dearly," she says. "We have even fixed each other up -- I more successfully than him, by the way."
"Peter and I feel so blessed to have met each other and to still have a caring, loving relationship. Love is what we're all about."
The two went through a lot together while they were married. The high school sweethearts married in 1978, long before Drescher became a household name. In 1985 armed robbers broke into their Los Angeles home, tied Jacobson up, and raped Drescher in front of him. She documented the experience in her book Enter Whining.
