Focus on the Family Faced With More Layoffs

The antigay ministry Focus on the Family announced on Friday it will eliminate 49 more jobs, reports Denver Post.

The Colorado Springs-based organization had a $105 million budget this fiscal year ending September 30, but its officials now estimate it will receive donations of only $90 million to $95 million.

"God has never promised us a certain budget number," Gary Schneeberger, Focus Vice President says. "We're sad today but not distraught about the future. Even in these bad economic times people who care about the ministry gave us more than $90 million. We've been able to help tens of thousands of families with their marriages, raising their kids and walking in their faith. Our commitment to that mission is unabated."

At its height in 2002, Focus on the Family employed 1,400, but has been trimming its workforce since 2008.

"Most of the years of the ministry we were under a $90 million budget," Schneeberger says. "Even so, we had a huge impact globally and believe we will continue to have a huge impact globally."

Focus on the Family, long notorious for fighting LGBT rights initiatives, was founded in 1977 by therapist Jim Dobson, who was succeeded by Jim Daly as president and CEO in 2009.

Sounds like Focus on the Family needs to 'Focus' on the FINANCES.. Gee, I'm heartbroken; NOT!! With any luck they, too, will follow the lead of the Crystal Cathedral in Anaheim, and go under. Perhaps there IS a God, after all.

Everybody, in different ways, made great points. My favorite was about this hate fuckers salary - how much of that 90 million goes to support what I'd have to assume is a very comfortable if not luxurious lifestyle....

I highly doubt God has any care in the universe about their budget. I think he probably has more important things to worry about, such as how focus on the family supports racial, religious, ethnic, and sexual orination genocide in any and all countrys they think they can get away with it.

I wonder how much Daly makes as his salary? The whole religion thing is a scam. I live near the CBN headquarters in Costa Mesa, CA - it looks like a Greek revival whorehouse. And they have a police car parked in front - just in case I guess. They also own numerous million and multi-million dollar homes to 'house' ministry employees. Good Grief.

I always hate to hear when folks lose their jobs due to the mismanagement of those in charge. With that said, it couldn't happen to a 'nicer' bunch of folks.

God didn't promis them a budget??? Wow, but why? Why would God who promises real estate (hence, the promised land) or promise a cozy afterlife (if not social security or retirement benefits) wouldn't give them more money? The Westboro Baptist Church should arrive to the occasion: God hates Focus on the Family!
