Le Tigre, Promise Ring among Spin’s Top 40

The current issue of Spin magazine includes the editors’ choices for the Top 40 bands for the year 2001, and among those making the list are out indie rockers the Promise Ring (number 36), lesbian icon Ani DiFranco (35), out rocker Kathleen Hanna’s post–Bikini Kill band Le Tigre (34), gay fave Madonna (24), and controversial rapper Eminem (5), whose lyrics have made him a magnet for controversy among some gay activists. (Art-rock combo Radiohead, incidentally, topped the list.)
