Gay Rights Protesters Converge on Delhi

Demonstrators demanded LGBT equality during a march on Sunday through India's capital.

A peaceful protest wended itself through Delhi on Sunday, where participants called for LGBT equality in the world's second-most populous nation.

It was only four years ago that India's high court decriminalized gay sex, and now the country's LGBT citizens are calling for real equality. At the rally, demonstrators held placards and flags, but some hid their faces with scarves or masks in deference to the country's endemic conservatism.

Transgender rights were also part of the march, with a renewed call for the government to allow people to obtain identity cards with the gender they identify as. Read more about the event here.
