Indiana Gay Plate Suit Tossed

A federal court has dismissed a lawsuit alleging Indiana's Bureau of Motor Vehicles arbitrarily rejected a license plate that supported a gay youth group.

But officials with the Indiana Youth Group, a 24-year-old organization that provides assistance to LGBT kids, are happy with the decision.

"Basically, what [the court] said is that if we submit a new application and make it perfectly clear that we will not use any of the money for administrative expenses -- that all the money will go to programming -- it is likely we will be able to get a license plate," the group's executive director, Mary Byrne, told The Indianapolis Star.

The Indiana Youth Group plans to apply -- for a third time -- for the plate, which would provide much-needed funding for the organization.
