14 LGBTQ+ Films and TV Shows to Watch in April
There's so much queer content coming in April, the hardest part will be finding time to watch it all! That's right, April is super gay. Here's when and where to tune in all month long.
‘See You Then’ - April 1
Fresh off wowing audiences at SXSW, See You Then is heading to theaters April 1, followed by a DVD and digital release on April 19. Trans writer and director Mari Walker makes her feature debut with this beautiful film that follows a former couple, Naomi and Kris, who, a decade after abruptly breaking up, decide to meet over dinner to catch up on how their lives have evolved since they split, including Kris's transition.
‘Lioness: The Nicola Adams Story’ - April 5
This documentary follows the story of Nicola Adams, a Black working-class lesbian from a council estate in England with an incredible gift for boxing, who took those talents to the top of the Olympic podium twice. Lioness: The Nicola Adams Story arrives on video on demand April 5.
‘Elite’: Season 5 - April 8
The breakout Spanish-language Netflix hit, which follows three working-class students who've enrolled in an elite private school -- and is super queer-inclusive and oh, so steamy -- is back for season 5. The series picks up in the aftermath of a shocking murder, as its ripple effects impact everyone in unforeseen ways. Elite season 5 premieres April 8.
‘iCarly’: Season 2 - April 8
One of the best surprises last year was how queer-inclusive the iCarly reboot turned out to be. Harper, Carly's roommate and one of the show's leads, is openly pansexual, having dated "cute guys, hot girls, and ridiculous gorgeous nonbinary lawyers." With season 2 heading to Paramount+ on April 8, fans can look forward to more heartwarming and LGBTQ+ content very soon.
‘Come Dance With Me’ - April 15
Come Dance With Me may be the most wholesome queer-inclusive series you've ever seen. Child dancers draft a family member to join them in the competition to win $100,000, but more importantly for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience doing this together. Out plus-size model and dancer Dexter Mayfield sits on the judges' panel, bringing his effervescent joy and plenty of fan snaps.
‘Love, Classified’ - April 16
Queer love is in the air in the new Hallmark Original Love, Classified. Romance novelist Emilia (Melora Hardin) arrives like a whirlwind in the lives of her adult children when she returns for a book signing in their hometown. Among them is her daughter Taylor (Katherine McNamara), who connects with a woman named (The L Word: Generation Q's Arienne Mandi) on a dating app, which changes her life -- and beliefs about love. Who couldn't use a little more cozy romance in their life? You can catch Love, Classified when it premieres April 16 on the Hallmark Channel.
‘The First Lady’ - April 17
First lady Eleanor Roosevelt's relationship with trailblazing journalist Lorena Hickok has long been a subject of historical speculation. In The First Lady, a new Showtime Original, that history is finally making it to screen. Gillian Anderson and Lily Rabe take on the roles of Roosevelt and Hickok, respectively, in the series, which will also delve into the lives of former first ladies Michelle Obama (Viola Davis) and Betty Ford (Michelle Pfeiffer). The First Lady premieres April 17 on Showtime.
‘Russian Doll’: Season 2 - April 20
Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) may have escaped her terminal time loop in season 1 of this brilliant, trippy, and queer-inclusive show -- but it looks like that's just the beginning of the universe messing with her. While the plot details for the sophomore season of the show are under tight wraps, we know we can count on things getting very weird in the best way. Season 2 of Russian Doll premieres April 20.
‘Heartstopper’ - April 22
Get ready to have your heart melted by this boy-meets-boy love story coming to Netflix April 22. In Heartstopper, Charlie and Nick strike up an unlikely friendship. Nick is a rugby-loving jock and Charlie is a more sensitive soul, but their friendship soon begins to deepen into something a lot like love. It's a sweet, romantic story about self-discovery and acceptance. Pass the tissues.
‘We’re All Going to the World’s Fair’ - April 22
In this surreal horror film from trans director Jane Schoenbrun, Casey (Anna Cobb) embarks on a bizarre, mind-altering nightmare when she decides to finally take the World's Fair Challenge, an online role-playing horror game, and embrace the uncertainty it promises. We're All Going to the World's Fair will be released in theaters nationwide April 15 followed by a digital release April 22.
‘Crush’ - April 29

This Estonian romantic war drama and Cold War thriller is set in the late 1970s and depicts the forbidden love story between a daring fighter pilot (Oleg Zagorodnii) and Private Sergey (Tom Prior) in a time when their love would be lethal. Firebird will be available via video on demand services April 29.
‘Grace and Frankie’: Season 7 - April 2
After six (and a half -- the first half of season 7 aired back in August) seasons, the groundbreaking and heartwarming series Grace and Frankie is coming to an end with 12 final episodes. While details on the final plot are under wraps, fans can look forward to plenty more laughs and probably some tears as Grace and Frankie continue to live their very best lives together.
‘Gentleman Jack’: Season 2 - April
Based on the real-life diaries of LGBTQ+ trailblazer and "first modern lesbian" Anne Lister, season 2 of Gentleman Jack sees newlyweds Lister (a.k.a. Gentleman Jack, played by Suranne Jones) and her lady love, Ann Walker (Sophie Rundle), setting up their home together, where they intend to become a revolutionary power couple in the U.K.'s Yorkshire region, circa 1835.
