Out Australian filmmaker Russell Mulcahy (whose credits include Highlander and the pilot for the American Queer as Folk) will direct Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis in the family drama Swimming Upstream, writes The Hollywood Reporter. Set in 1950s Australia, the book is based on Anthony Fingleton's memoir of his struggle to become an Olympic swimmer despite an alcoholic father (Rush) and his father's long-suffering wife (Davis). Davis won an Emmy on Sunday for her portrayal of Judy Garland in the miniseries Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows.
