San Francisco Film Critics Circle establishes Marlon Riggs Award
In presenting its 2003 award winners, the San Francisco Film Critics Circle has announced the establishment of the Marlon Riggs Award, named for the legendary gay African-American documentary film maker whose works include Tongues Untied and Color Adjustment. The first recipient of the award, which will go to a Bay Area filmmaker, will be Sam Green, codirector of the documentary The Weather Underground. Also honored this year by the group was Charlize Theron for her portrayal of lesbian serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Patty Jenkins's Monster.
