Harvey Fierstein's newest theater project, A Catered Affair, will begin previews March 25, 2008, at the Walter Kerr Theatre in New York City. Directed by John Doyle and scored by John Bucchino, A Catered Affair is an adaptation of the Paddy Chayevsky teleplay The Catered Affair. It was later adapted as a 1956 MGM film starring Bette Davis, Ernest Borgnine, Barry Fitzgerald, and Debbie Reynolds. Why the slight change in title? "That title always struck me as wrong," Fierstein told Reuters in a report Tuesday. "It's much more about a catered affair, one personal wedding party which is the catalyst for everything which follows."

Previews in New York will follow a run in San Diego at the Old Globe Theatre in September. (The Advocate)
