It was an open-and-shut case for Idol: The Musical. August 12 was the opening night for the show that depicted young intense fans of Idol season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken, who wanted to get out of his small town. It closed the same night.

Todd Ellis, the producer of Idol: The Musical, closed the show because it lacked advance ticket sales, positive feedback from audience members and critics, and sustainable financial resources, according to a statement.

Daniel Tursi, who directed the musical, replaced the original cast during previews. The cast of nine American Idol wannabes included Babs Rubenstein, Jennie Riverso, Nikita Richards, Courtney Ellis, Jon Balcourt, Ryan Sprague, Joella Burt, Joe Walker, and Roy George-Thiemann. (The Advocate)
