The film documenting the life of San Francisco activist Harvey Milk has finished production in the city. The production cycle lasted eight weeks and wrapped Monday with a scene shot on a set on Treasure Island, with Sean Penn as Milk watching Tosca, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Other actors in the film include Emile Hirsch, Josh Brolin, James Franco, and Victor Garber.
Milk, one of the first openly gay men elected to office, was assassinated along with San Francisco mayor George Moscone by city supervisor Dan White in 1978.
The film, directed by Gus Van Sant and written by Dustin Lance Black, will be released this fall. (The Advocate)
