Hugh Jackman Says Next Wolverine Film Will Be His Last

The Australian actor confirms he's ready to hang up his claws.

In a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Hugh Jackman said that if he does another Wolverine film, he's "99.9% sure it would be his last." The Australian actor has portrayed the iconic Marvel Comics mutant in a total of seven films, ranging from 2000's X-Men to this year's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Two of those films centered on Wolverine himself, and a third movie is currently in development. Jackman was also quick to note that he wasn't "signed on" for that sequel, and he wouldn't take part in the project unless it was "better than the last one."

While Wolverine is probably Jackman's best-known character, the thespian suggested in a discussion with Yahoo! Movies that he'd like Channing Tatum to suit up in future adaptations. The franchise could probably use a fresh group of actors -- last year's The Wolverine had the lowest domestic box office gross of the entire X-Men series.

Despite the diminishing returns as Wolverine, Jackman's proven himself a versatile actor, even winning a Tony Award for his role as gay singer-songwriter Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz. Perhaps another queer character is in his future?
