An epic love story between two women that spans decades is featured in the new, tearjerking ad for the Renault Clio.
"30 Years in the Making" chronicles a friendship between girls that grows into abiding love over time and distance that eventually conquers all -- including some heartbreak.
The ad, set to Rahel Debebe-Dessalegne's cover of the Oasis classic "Wonderwall," begins with English parents dropping their daughter off as part of a student exchange with a French family. The child bonds deeply with the daughter of the exchange family, and the girls trade music, letters, and experiences over the years until they can no longer deny that they are meant to be together.
"We wanted to humanize and celebrate not just 30 years of progress of the Renault Clio, but also the progress made within culture, society, and life in that time," Marketing Director of Renault UK Adam Wood said, according to The Independent.
Executive Creative Director at Publicis Poke Dave Monk said of the ad, "Britain has had a love affair with the Renault Clio since the '90s halcyon days of Papa & Nicole and wind-up windows."
"Many things have changed in those thirty years. While technology, design, attitudes, and culture will always shift and change, one thing will always stay the same as long as humans have hearts: the love story. This is a simple and universal tale of two souls on their own enduring journey of life, love, and passion," Monk said.
