The Houston AIDS Housing Coalition, an emergency housing organization that has been in disarray since its primary source of funds---an after-hours nightclub run by the coalition--was shut down in July, has reopened under a new name, new executive director, and new board of directors, the Houston Voice reports. The agency will now operate as the West Heights Shelter and will serve both male and female adults living with HIV/AIDS. The shelter will provide private rooms, food, clothing, and other amenities to residents, who may stay a maximum of 90 days. "Efforts will be targeted to moderately ill AIDS patients who may have fallen through the cracks in the system--real, live, sick human beings--that nobody else can help today because of funding cuts and red tape," said new executive director Matt Locklin. The start-up of the new shelter was made possibly by a grant from Houston Endowment Inc.
