Government officials in Thailand have banned the manufacture and distribution of a food supplement being touted as a cure for AIDS. The supplement, called V-1 Immunator, has already been sold to thousands of HIV-positive people in the country and abroad. Studies have shown that the supplement does not prevent HIV infection, slow HIV replication in the body, or purge HIV from those infected with the virus. The new ban will impose fines of $1,000 and up to three years in prison for the makers of V-1 Immunator if they continue to distribute the product.
