MAC Cosmetics and the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences on September 2 announced $50,000 in donations to HIV/AIDS charities in Miami, Brazil, and Mexico. The donations were announced at the LARAS Person of the Year Tribute Dinner in Miami honoring Brazilian minister of culture Gilberto Gil. Gil accepted the donations on behalf of the charities. "We are committed to supporting the efforts of AIDS organizations within the Latin community, and it is only fitting that Gilberto accepts this donation on their behalf," said John Demsey, MAC president. Founded in 1994, the MAC AIDS Fund is dedicated to supporting adults and children throughout the world infected with or affected by HIV. To date, the fund has raised nearly $30 million for HIV/AIDS charities through the sale of its Viva Glam lipstick and Kids Helping Kids greeting cards.
