Wang Longde, China's vice minister of health, says the country earlier this month drafted a new law to protect HIV-positive people and their families from stigma and discrimination. In a survey last year, the health ministry found that nearly 60% of urban residents would be "nervously afraid" to have contact with HIV-positive people in public. The ministry expects the new law to come into effect by the end of this year.
