A new Web site chronicles the global AIDS pandemic through newspaper articles collected from around the country, with more than 50,000 newspaper pages that include articles about the disease in a searchable database. Using Adobe Reader and Optical Character Recognition technology, researchers can quickly obtain articles about HIV by searching with key words or dates. The site also includes a brief timeline of the epidemic as told through newspaper accounts. "The history of AIDS is filled with indifference, hatred, intolerance, and eventually acceptance and action," said Greg Hollingsworth, researcher for the site, in a press statement. "The newspaper articles within this archive give readers a glimpse into the history of a subject that has not left the spotlight for 25 years." The site can be accessed online at www.aidsarchive.com.
