Mark R. Dybul, a gay man who currently serves as acting U.S. global AIDS coordinator and the chief medical officer for the U.S. State Department, has been nominated by President Bush to head the Global AIDS Office, Southern Voice reports. As global AIDS coordinator, Dybul would be responsible for guiding the government's five-year, $15 billion President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which fights AIDS in several hard-hit nations. Dybul's nomination must be confirmed by the Senate. (The Advocate)
