McGreevey's wife buys new home

The wife of resigning New Jersey governor James E. McGreevey is buying a home where she apparently will live without her husband. Dina Matos McGreevey, 37, executive director of the Columbus Hospital Foundation in Newark, has not spoken publicly about her husband's August announcement that he is gay and had an extramarital affair with a man. She took ownership of the modest ranch-style house in Springfield in the last few days, Maureen Leddy, the real estate agent who handled the sale, told The New York Times for Wednesday's editions. She declined to disclose the sale price. Similar homes in realty listings for the area range from $329,000 to $650,000. The McGreeveys are to leave the governor's mansion in Princeton next month, three months after the governor announced that he is gay and would resign. The Record of Bergen County, citing unidentified friends of the McGreeveys, reported that the first lady will move into the house without her husband and is eager to put the public chaos of their lives behind her. Friends have said the governor's wife was unaware of her husband's homosexuality. The couple have a daughter, who turns 3 in December. A telephone message left by the Associated Press at the hospital where Dina McGreevey works received no response. Micah Rasmussen, a spokesman for the governor, declined to comment on the report. "Their personal lives are none of my business," Rasmussen said. The Record also cited unidentified sources in reporting that Governor McGreevey, 47, has checked out an apartment in Rahway.
