Man charged with
murdering gay Key West gardener

Alleged killer is already in jail on a related burglary charge.

A warrant was issued Tuesday for the arrest of the man charged with the first-degree murder of 63-year-old Key West gardener Rodger Keller; Keller had been one of the original members of the Gay Liberation Front in the 1970s. Johnny Ray Holt, 24, who had apparently lived with Keller for four months at one point, has been held in a Georgia jail since March 21, the day after Keller's death, on a related burglary charge, reports Key West's Citizen newspaper. Holt is accused of shooting Keller at point-blank range days after burglarizing his girlfriend's family's house in Alabama and taking off with their car for Florida. On his way back north he was arrested in Georgia after his girlfriend alerted authorities to his exact location. (The Advocate)
