Rob Cole, who served as The Advocate's news editor from 1969 through the mid 1970s, died June 30.

He reported stories on topics such as Los Angeles County district attorney candidate Vincent Bugliosi's campaign trip through gay bars; psychiatric abuse; the plight of drag legend Rae Bourbon; and an 18-year veteran of the Los Angeles police department who called older gays "devastating" because they "prey on small children." Cole had worked for 17 years at The Dallas Times-Herald before joining The Advocate.

He leaves behind his longtime partner, Bob McCoard.
