Danilo Giuffrida, 26, will receive PS80,000 (approximately $160,000) in a settlement from the defense and transport ministries in his native Catania, Italy.

Giuffrida was ordered to retake a driving test after it was revealed that he is gay, London's Daily Mail reported Monday.

According to the Mail, after passing the test a second time, Giuffrida's license was renewed for only one year rather than the customary 10 because of his "sexual identity disturbance."

A judge in Catania ruled that Giuffrida's constitutional rights had been violated and ordered the compensation to be paid. (The Advocate)
