Fifteen-year-old Levi Sever, who was caught beating his gay classmate at Unioto High School in October, will serve 90 days at a juvenile detention center, Juvenile Court judge Richard Ward ruled Tuesday.
Zach Huston, also 15, was brutally assaulted by Sever, but the encounter was recorded by an cell phone camera, and the footage quickly made the rounds online. Huston, who spoke to The Advocate last week, said video of the assault was the defining factor that prompted school officials to finally take a stand after years of bullying from classmates. Sever has not attended school since the attack.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, Sever will also undergo mental health counseling and will continue his education during his time in the detention center.
