Change.org's Gay Rights blog has compiled a list of the five most valuable straight allies in Congress who are championing gay rights and leading the fight for equality.
"In a governmental body where you have members saying that gay marriage makes them physically queasy (Sen. Jim DeMint), or that gay marriage is a bigger threat than terrorism (Rep. Michele Bachmann), it's important to know who your straight friends are," the website says.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Joe Sestak (D-Pa.) (pictured, from left) tie for first on the list, with Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.), Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.), and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) also making the list.
Nadler finds himself sharing top honors for leading the charge to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act. Sestak is on the list for his passionate pleas to repeal DOMA and "don't ask, don't tell."
