The Human Rights Campaign and Servicemembers United issued a national action alert to recruit service members, families, and allies for a day of lobbying Congress.
The move comes as Congress addresses the upcoming Defense Department funding bill, which is touted as being a route to repealing the ban on out gays an lesbians in the military.
Field staffers are being dispatched to Florida, Indiana, Nebraska, Virginia, West Virginia, and more states to be announced to find willing participants.
"Too many members of Congress have been removed from the direct impact of 'don't ask, don't tell,' said HRC president Joe Solmonese. "We hope this national call to lobby will activate former service members and their families to speak candidly and bluntly about the damage caused by this law."
