Robocalls Target Fight Back NY

Fightback

The political action group Fight Back NY has promised to oust the eight Democratic state senators who voted against marriage equality in New York last December, and the first of those senators, Hiram Monserrate, lost his bid for reelection earlier this week. But now a robo-call campaign is pushing back at Fight Back NY -- specifically regarding one of the group's next targets, Sen. Bill Stachowski.

The New York Daily News reports that conservative voters in New York's 58th senate district, which includes Buffalo, have been receiving the following robocall:

"Hello. I'm calling with important information for all Conservative voters. There's a quiet battle being waged right now to railroad Sen. Bill Stachowski out of office and replace him with county legislator Tim Kennedy. Why? Because Bill Stachowski opposes gay marriage, and Tim Kennedy supports it.

"Special interest money from leading gay organizations is lining up behind Kennedy right now, and Kennedy has promised his vote for that campaign cash. But what's worse is that some Conservative Party leaders are part of the scheme. That's right. In return for patronage jobs some Conservative leaders are willing to sell out our principles that marriage is between a man and a woman and throw over Bill Stachowski, who is on our side.

"As Conservatives we cannot allow pro-gay marriage Tim Kennedy. ... please call Conservative Party chairman Mike Long at ... and tell him you want Bill Stachowski and not Tim Kennedy representing us. Thank you."

It's doubtful, however, that the call will stand in the way of Fight Back NY's efforts. See a video actress Cynthia Nixon made for the effort below.
