Vice President Joe Biden appeared Tuesday on Good Morning America and defend Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan's decision to block military recruiters from the campus of Harvard Law School as dean. He said that he agrees with Kagan that "don't ask, don't tell" is a "very bad policy."
Kagan's actions on military recruitment, and her statements against the "don't ask, don't tell" policy, appear likely to become a contentious point of inquiry during her confirmation hearings in the Senate. Senator Jeff Sessions told GMA that Kagan, now solicitor general, was "absolutely wrong" in her decision at Harvard, which he says conflicted with the Solomon Amendment.
Biden, however, told GMA that "she was right" in the decision.
"This is not a single bit of anti-military bias," he said.
The vice president also said that he agrees with Kagan that "don't ask, don't tell," which prevents gays and lesbians from serving openly, is a "very bad policy."
