A county supervisor in California's Sonoma County walked out during a presentation Tuesday that recognized the contributions of the area's LGBT residents.

Paul Kelley, a Republican, didn't support the board of supervisors' gay-supportive resolution on the grounds that it singled out a specific group, according to Santa Rosa's Press-Democrat newspaper. Kelley walked out of the room before the presentation -- which included Sonoma County gay leaders -- and didn't return until the board took up its next item.

"I think Sonoma County is friendly to all people regardless of their sexual identity," Kelley said later in an interview with the Press-Democrat. "I don't think [the resolution] was necessary to single out a particular group."

When the reporter asked about other resolutions the board passed, including one recognizing the contributions of emergency service workers, Kelley said those groups were different.
