Brittany Novotny, a transgender woman running for office, says her gender will not be an issue in her candidacy for the Oklahoma Legislature. Novotny, whose gender was addressed in a New York Times article, says her commitment to service should be the most important factor to voters.
"...I want to be a representative, and I don't want to let the fact that I went through that part of my life affect that I am right for the job," Novotny said in the Times article.
Novotny will face anti-gay incumbent Sally Kern, who is known for saying gay people are worse than terrorists.
