Seven gay veterans and active members of the military wrote essays for The New York Times on the struggle of living and working under "don't
ask, don't tell."
The essays come from gay and lesbian military personnel like former Army engineer officer Bridget Altenburg and an unnamed Coast Guard pilot who wrote that the only bad days he has come when he is "placed in the unwanted position of having to lie or deceive my coworkers because of DADT."
