Are people born gay? Mitt Romney prefers not to opine on the matter.

The 2008 Republican presidential candidate -- and potential candidate in 2012 -- declined to comment on recent statements by Boyd K. Packer, an apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who asserted that homosexuality is "impure and unnatural."

"I still consider myself in the public arena, and as such I just don't delve into matters of faith and my religion and doctrines of my church, whether it's to try to explain it to other people or ascribe my own personal beliefs," Romney said, as reported by The Salt Lake Tribune when he was asked about his views on Packer's statements that sexual orientation is not immutable.
