Daley Talks to Chi. Gay Paper

Chicago LGBT newspaper Windy City Times has a wide-ranging interview this week with outgoing mayor Richard M. Daley, who will retire next year after having served since 1989.

Editor Tracy Baim notes that while Daley's relationship with gays was initially "bumpy," he "has proved himself to be among the country's most progressive mayors on gay issues. No other city has had a mayor supporting gay-inclusive policies for this many years in a row."

Daley discusses the evolution of that relationship; the attitudes of his legendary father, 21-year mayor Richard J. Daley; and how gay Chicagoans "make the city better." Read the full interview here.
