As more search engines attempt to add more dynamic functions, some have insisted on implementing self-censorship, leaving out the ability to search for terms like "gay" or "lesbian."
Yahoo's new Clue tool, which allows users to compare the popularity of search terms, does not have any data available for "gay," "masturbation," or "sex," according to ZDNet. The site does allow a search for the terms "lesbian," "homosexual," "bisexual," and "transgender."
A similar move put Google under fire in September, when Google Instant's newly launched auto-complete function did not automatically perform a search for the terms "bisexual" and "lesbian." Google said the function "excludes certain terms related to pornography, violence, and hate speech."
