Female Boxer Shot Over Lesbian Affair

World champion female boxer Christy Martin told police her husband shot and stabbed her last week after she told him she was leaving him for a woman.

According to a police report obtained by TMZ, Martin told officers she'd been staying in a hotel for a few days before the incident occurred. She'd returned to their Apopka, Fla., home to tell her husband James she was leaving him for a woman named Sherry.

She claims her husband stabbed and shot her, but she was able to get away and flag down help. She is still recovering from the attack, but according to a rep, the injuries are not "life-threatening."

Police arrested James Martin on Tuesday. He allegedly refused to surrender, and before being taken into custody, appeared to stab himself.

Christy Martin, 42, is known as one of the most successful female boxers in the United States and is often credited with legitimizing women in boxing.
